Devlog #1: Meditative Moments - Beginning Development
Hello !
Welcome to the first devlog of Meditative Auditory Moments . I'm excited to announce that I'm now through the brainstorming and development phase of the project and ready to prototype and implement the projects assets. After a bit of a tug of war in changing concepts and trying on different ways of making a game I've come back to this concept as it is truly the game I want to make. This game will be an exercise in game development as well as technical audio design and immersive sound design.
What is it ?
This Game is an auditory experience where the player will have the opportunity to focus on their auditory perception and then record it on an panner thats displayed after the soundscape experience. There is no real winning although I suppose if you want to get competitive about it you could try to get all experience pan paths completely correct but not the objective of the game.
What's Happening?
1. I'm currently developing the audio assets for the world map environment that will be implemented in the Unity Mix system Via the Resonance Audio plugin. These will be organic elements that will be interacted with such as : trees, grass, lake, ocean, spawning creatures etc. These will also be updatable and can be added in succession to the environment to augment the experience as the level and game grows.
2. I am also developing 2 natural world sound scapes mixed in Dolby Atmos and rendered in Binaural Stereo to be played as standalone mixes outside of the unity spatial mixer. These will be the mini game environments that the player will listen to and then record on the touch screen panner after complete.
3. Making a call on the AI narration to guide the player at the start will be done as well and sourcing / choosing the correct voice for the experience. I'm hoping Morgan Freemans likeness is available ;P
What's Next?
1. Game Mechanics will be the next step once these assets are created. A basic player controller will be the method of navigation and listening source and the player can choose their pace to navigate the environment.
2. UI and promting : I will be implementing a line renderer with an interactive audio loop for the user to record their experience with. This will also be paired with low poly art to describe the sound scape that the player will be engaging with .
Where to ?
I'm excited for this project to take shape and for the potential to add to it in the future. The potential for different mini game and experiences as well as AR/VR will be very cool to experiment with. The Atmos experiences are one element but the potential to add more interactions and ways of playing within the map world are exciting as well.
